Do you want to know how to make ozone eye drops to relieve your dry eyes or eye strain? Yes, you’ve read that right. Ozonated saline eye drops are a popular treatment for several eye problems. This blog post will give you a step-by-step procedure on how to prepare your very own ozone eyes drops.

A Step-by-Step Guide On How To Make Ozone Eye Drops

A Few Notes Before We Proceed

What Makes Ozone Therapeutic?

The therapeutic applications of ozone have been studied by researchers for more than a century. It’s disinfecting properties have shown proven, consistent, safe effects with minimal and preventable side effects according to the clinical review of A. M. Elvis and J. S. Ekta. Ozone can inactivate bacteria and viruses, stimulate of oxygen metabolism and activate the immune system.

What You’ll Need:

We would like to stress the use of 0.9% preservative-free saline. Ozone interacting with preservatives can yield to harmful byproducts. We also do not recommend the use of water due to its very low osmolarity that can cause burning and irritation in the eyes. Furthermore, make sure you only use a glass container and a glass eye dropper bottle. Materials like plastic or copper can produce toxic reactions when interacting with ozone.

Step 1. Prepare All The Materials

Carefully place the ozone generator and the glass container on a table. Be sure to keep a clean washcloth and the eye dropper glass nearby, too.

Step 2. Pour The Saline Solution into The Glass Container

With caution, pour in desired amount of saline solution into your glass container.

Step 3. Place The Ozone Generator’s Hose in the Glass Container

Before turning the machine on, place its hose in the glass container.

Step 4. Cover The Glass Container With a Washcloth

Prior to bubbling the saline solution, do not forget to cover the mouth of the glass container with a washcloth.

Step 5. Turn The Ozone Generator On

Switch the machine on to start the ozonation. Bubble the saline for 15 to 20 minutes.

Step 6. Transfer The Ozonated Saline into a Glass Eye Dropper Bottle

After bubbling the saline, slowly pour the end product into a glass eye dropper.

Step 7. Apply

And that’s it! You have your very own ozonated saline eye drops. Because of ozone’s quick half-life, we recommend that you apply the solution as often as possible. Probably every one to five minutes. Ozone will not stay long in the solution so by the end of the day very little ozone molecule will be left in the saline. You can refrigerate the solution though to sort of prolong its life.
