The effects of Solanum melongena (eggplant) on visual function

This study was conducted by the Department of Pharmacology and Therapeutics at the Abia State University in Nigeria.  A large serving of eggplants were given to visually active male patients and their intraocular pressures were measured.  Results showed that the pupil size was reduced by 23%, the near point of focusing improved by 9% and the intraocular pressure was reduced by 25%. These results are clearly that of  a  parasympathetic effect on the ocular system. The authors did not mention the chemical ingredient that produced this effect but Solanum melongena belongs to the The Solanaceae Family. This family includes potatoes, tomatoes, eggplant, sweet peppers and chili peppers.

In homeopathy, the Solanaceae Family remedies have been used to treat glaucoma, reading problems and many other eye conditions.  I am investigating the homeopathic studies with Solanum melongena.

I love eggplants and in my garden in Phoenix I grow 6 different species of the eggplant. Maybe this is why at age 60 I don’t need reading glasses! I invite any patients who are interested in an egg plant party to confirm this study! The eggplant is on me and it is fresh and 100% organic! Please call the office now if you are interested in this study! Be prepared to eat a large serving of eggplant and then have measurements on your eyes. 1-800-430-9328 or [email protected]
