Welcome to the Healing the Eye monthly newsletter. March is the month of St. Patrick and we are featuring the importance of the color green. Colorful food will give you color vision especially all those raw green vegetables. In a recent study, patients who ate three servings of spinach per week had a 43% lower risk of developing macular degeneration! Begin now to incorporate eating more green foods. Also in celebration of St. Patrick we have a video of Dr. Anne Marie Fine, a University of Notre Dame graduate (The Fighting Irish), who was a recent guest on my television show “Healthy Vision.”

I hope you enjoy this presentation I did with Dr. Kondrot. I am delighted to be involved in the Healing the Eye and Wellness Center team. My job is to bring naturopathic medicine and microcurrent treatment to the patients who are coming to see Dr. Kondrot for their eye health. The Color Green
As we approach springtime, the change of season comes to mind and we need to be aware of what that change represents in our world and within us personally.
In traditional Chinese medicine, we learn that spring is associated with the color green. It is a time of renewed energy, growth and new beginnings. The organ associated with spring and the color green is the liver which relates to cleansing and detoxification and also to ligaments and muscles in the body. The emotions are joy and anger. Green also represents peace and healing and in the chakra system it is connected to the heart chakra, the centre of our spiritual selves. In the oriental system it is believed that the shen, or spirit, resides in the heart relating to love, peace and joy. As we venture out of winter, a time of withdrawal and retreat, we can look forward to growth, movement and development. The stagnant or inward energy will be replaced with upward movement when the earth is beginning to sprout and grow.
What does this mean for us? Perhaps detoxifying the body and the emotions. Begin cleansing with either a detoxifying program approved by your health care practitioner but more importantly letting go of the old hurts, pains and memories. When we cleanse ourselves of negative thoughts and feelings the new emotions of joy, peace and love begin to flow through us and outwards. We are all drawn to joy, peace and love so that when we feel and express these emotions, we attract the good things in life to us. Our energy and aura is like a magnet that attracts happiness and joy into our lives. Releasing old toxic thoughts such as resentment and anger heals the mind, heart and body so we enter the new phase of the earth cycle, the spring season, renewed and energized for all that springs forth!

Beat Back Blindness with Greens!
Your mother was rightóeating a carrot a day really does keep the eye doctor away. Carrots and other vegetables, particularly green leafy ones, are chock full of antioxidants. Antioxidants have been shown to prevent cataracts and macular degeneration, the leading cause of blindness in older people. With that in mind we recommend that you load up your plate with foods high in lutein and zeaxanthin, antioxidants singled out for their sight saving benefits. This means piling on the carrots, kale, spinach, Swiss chard, collards, mustard greens, red peppers, dill, parsley and romaine lettuce. Whatóyou donít like those vegetables? Drinking a greens drink daily can provide you with these benefits in a tasty glass of vegetable juice.
Researchers in the United States have found that the antioxidants lutein and zeaxanthin were almost ten times more powerful than Vitamin E in protecting the cells in the eye from UV-induced damageóa main cause of cataracts. Cataract patients also tend to be deficient in Vitamin A, which your body makes from the beta carotene found in your diets. Carrots are very high in beta carotene.
Based on a study described by Laurie Deutsch Mozian in her book, Foods that Fight Disease, a dietary intake of only six milligrams of lutein per day decreases your chances of developing age-related macular degeneration by 43 percent. However, if you are already experiencing macular degeneration or other vision problems, a high-lutein diet can still help you save your sight by increasing the density of your macular pigment. “Macular degeneration may be stabilized with microcurrent, homeopathic medicine, and nutritional intervention,” says Dr. Kondrot, medical director of the world famous Healing the Eye and Wellness Center.
There are many greens drink powdered beverages on the market. Some popular brands are ProGreens, Green Magma, and Greens First. These superfood concentrates contain the powdered extract of green vegetables including kale, broccoli, spinach, the young shoots of green grasses like barley and wheat grass, and may also contain chlorella, spirulina, both greens from the sea, as well as other high antioxidant foods. They are easy to mix up and by drinking one per day, you easily consume several servings of green vegetables at one sitting. These drinks have the added benefit of providing you with unparalleled energy and vitality, and can stimulate gentle detoxification.

Green light lowers intraocular pressure!
An article called ìSome Experiments with Green Spectacles Prescribed to Glaucomatous Patientsî By R. B. Zaretskava was published in the American Journal of Ophthalmology (AJO) in 1948.
The article showed a pronounced tendency of reducing intra ocular pressure in glaucomatous patients who wore green glasses. Pressures were measured 3 times a day at 7:00 AM, 1:00 PM and 7:00 PM. in 19 patents who had glaucoma. The decrease in pressure was fairly appreciable 6 mm Hg in 8 cases, 6 to 10 mm Hg in 9 cases and 10 or more in 3 cases. It was felt that green light brought about a definite rearrangement of the autonomic nervous system and thus affecting the intraocular pressure of the eye. This may be a valuable adjunctive therapy for glaucoma patients who are struggling to lower their pressures and those who are interested in reducing or eliminating toxic eye drops.
The AJO is a very prestigious peer review journal in ophthalmology. How many eye doctors do you think are aware of this article or the positive effects of green light! At the Healing the Eye and Wellness center we routinely use green light therapy along with microcurrent in the treatment of glaucoma.
